Detroit Area Agency on Aging Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement Pledges to Raise Money of Holiday Meals on Wheels Card Campaign #sharethelove

Detroit Area Agency on Aging has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. See www.DetroitSeniorSolution.com/donate

Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Meals on Wheels
Detroit Meals on Wheels feeds 6,000 homebound seniors daily. But due to Federal funds being unavailable during the holidays, campaigns, fundraisers and private contributions help raise funds to feed seniors. “This year’s holiday meal deliveries are made possible by the contributions from corporations like Ford Motor Company Fund, UAW Ford, DTE, DAAA employees and hundreds of individuals, partnering organizations and churches. These contributions allow the Detroit Area Agency on Aging to feed a needy senior on Easter, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas,” said Paul Bridgewater, president and CEO of Detroit Area Agency on Aging.

92Y −  a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around its core values of community service and giving back conceptualized #GivingTuesday as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. In 2014, the third year of the movement, #GivingTuesday brought together 30,000 partners in 68 countries and registered 32.7 million impressions on Twitter, with its eponymous hashtag mentioned 698,600 times. Since 2012, online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has increased more than four-fold, based on findings by Blackbaud and the Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, produced in partnership with the Case Foundation.[1]

“We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” said Henry Timms, founder of
#GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y. “As we embark on our fourth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partners eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.”

Detroit Meals on Wheels: Driving Away Hunger on Thanksgiving thanks to Ford Motor Company Fund

Meals On Wheels Is Driving Away Hunger On The Holidays - Volunteer Drivers Needed!!! We need assistance with delivery of thousands of meals to homebound seniors in the Metro Detroit area on Thanksgiving Day http://www.prlog.org/12510327-meals-on-wheels-is-driving-away-hunger-on-the-holidays-volunteer-drivers-wanted.html

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to #sharethelove for our seniors!

Ford Motor Company is again teaming up with the Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) for the eighth consecutive year as part of the Holiday Meals on Wheels Thanksgiving program. Their efforts will ensure more than 6,000 area homebound seniors can enjoy a Thanksgiving Day meal.
Ford's donation of $50,000 to DAAA not only goes to supply the food for Thanksgiving Meals, but it provides additional funding for the daily meal service throughout the year.

Additionally, Ford employees and their families will come together on Wednesday, Nov. 25, to assemble freshly prepared meals at Valley Services at 1980 Bagley in Detroit, starting at 8 a.m.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and share with those we love and care about - especially our seniors, who are often alone on the holiday," said Paul Bridgewater, DAAA president and CEO.  "That's why we are thankful for the Ford Motor Company Fund. They are driving away hunger on Thanksgiving with their generous donation that enables us to deliver fresh, hot
traditional Thanksgiving meals to about 6,000 seniors. It is not only a donation and the volunteers they're supplying to DAAA, but a gift to our entire community."
